TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Florida Gov. Rick Scott is heading to Chicago in his latest bid to convince companies to relocate.
This marks the first time, however, Scott targeted a state controlled by a Republican governor. Scott over the last three years visited states led by Democratic governors.
Scott leaves for the Windy City later this week. But in statement, Scott faulted the Illinois General Assembly and Chicago's mayor for policies he says hurt businesses.
Scott's trip comes just a few days after Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner officially announced he was running for re-election in 2018. Scott is vice chairman of the Republican Governors Association.
Scott contends Rauner has tried to grow the state's economy. Illinois legislators this summer adopted an income-tax increase and the state's first budget in two years over Rauner's vetoes.
