A driver crashed a car into the side of a Miami Police substation Friday morning, and got trapped inside. A firetruck was used to tow the car away and free 36-year-old Giftson Cherenfant.

Police say they do not believe this was an accident.

"Based on video surveillance that we have, this breach - it was intentional. So he meant to breach the rear gate. He also breached the wall of the North District Substation. No one was hurt, other than the driver, he did sustain some minor injuries. We don't know the purpose of why he chose to breach the rear gate and the station," said Chief Jorge Colina of the Miami Police Department.

The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Miami Police said they found a weapon, a safe and other objects inside the car, and do not believe Cherenfant has a violent past.

Family members told police he was acting differently before the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
