The St. Lucie Fire District said a 58-year-old woman suffered cardiac arrest overnight, the first storm-related death from Hurricane Matthew.
An emergency call came in at 1:20 a.m. Friday after the district had suspended operations due to the storm.
The victim, whose name has not been released, did not live on a barrier island.
The district is considering this a storm-related death because emergency crews could not respond to the call.
