Sloppy smooching with FOX 4's camera is just another part of the scene on Fort Myers Beach as spring break kicks into high gear.
Four In Your Corner's Stephanie Tinoco going to the beach, ending up with some lip smudges on her camera lens to show what you can expect if you're headed to places like the Lani Kai Hotel this time of year.
Spring breakers are bringing their own set of rules this year to Fort Myers Beach; taking cigarette breaks in between questions, interrupting on-camera interviews, and getting a little too close for comfort to our camera.
It's just a glimpse of what has some spring breakers from all over the country coming to Fort Myers Beach. "It was a 30-hour drive from Minnesota and this is my first time down in Fort Myers...it's good," said one visitor.
And it's not just all about the drinks; there's beach volleyball, hooting and hollering, and even dance performances from Cincinnati firefighters. But the booze is never far from the conversation. "General intoxication is a pretty fun experience," said one spring breaker.
But fun for them could also mean crowded roads, which bring on extra patrols. "Traffic, plus cops, have increased by 75 percent," says one Lani Kai staff member.
And the Lani Kai, which is pretty much the center of the action, is gearing up in their own way. "There has been a little bit of chaos here on Fort Myers Beach, but that is normal here at the Lani Kai. We always make sure to double book ourselves with staff and security members."
But all the security in the world isn't enough to keep some spring breakers from sounding silly, like the guy we interviewed but refused to believe it. "You never hit the play button. I know this is fake, but I appreciate you acting like I'm on TV."
