FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fort Myers police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old high school senior dead Sunday afternoon.
Investigators say Lawrence Laquane Lockley was shot in the 3700 block of Suntrust Drive in Fort Myers just before 2:00 p.m. A second man, Marcus Dupree Davis Jr. who was with Lockley, was shot several times but is expected to survive.
"Just in a matter of minutes he's dead. He's gone, he's not coming back," said Keara Walker, a friend of Lockley.
Walker told Fox 4 she was on the phone with Lockley, minutes before he was shot and killed. "I was the last person he talked to," said Walker.
She says Lockley was hanging out at his cousin's home and she was planning on meeting him there. "He called us to go chill with them, I could have been dead," said Walker.
It's not clear why Lockley was targeted, or if he was the intended target.
"It's 2 o'clock on a Sunday; the weather was good, a lot of people were out," said Lt. Jay Rodriguez, Fort Myers Police. "We're just asking anyone who may have seen something, heard something, to please call the police department."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Myers Police Department (239-321-7812) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-780-TIPS).
