A girl told Florida Gulf Coast University Police a man sexually assaulted her in a campus building.
It happened at Siedler Hall, the college of arts and sciences.
FGCU Police issued a crime alert that said the man accosted the victim but she was able to break free and run away.
Nick Green, a senior at FGCU, was shocked by the alert.
"For Something to hit close to home, especially at my university, it's really frustrating and concerning," he said.
Nick's brother, Andrew Green, graduated from FGCU.
"When I was at school here, I never heard of anything like this happening before, so to hear that it's happened even in the summer time, it's very disappointing and sad," Andrew said.
The incident happened Tuesday night at 10:30, but the girl reported it to FGCU Police on Thursday.
"It's terrible for her, and I'm sure her family, as well," Andrew said.
The man is described as in his 40s, Hispanic, with dark, short hair and a stocky build.
Nick sai the suspect may have taken advantage of the fact that it's summer and fewer people are on campus.
"I was walking around campus and saw maybe 10 people. No one around, there's probably no more police, or as many," he said.
Police say to always report suspicious persons or vehicles, be aware of your surroundings, don't go out alone at night, and stay in well-lit areas.
