Administrators with the Collier County and Miami-Dade County school districts reviewed each others security plans ahead of the state semi-final game between Naples and Miami Central. The discussions follow a shooting outside Miami’s Traz Powell Stadium November 21st.
“Logistics for getting people in and out of the stadium,” said Collier County’s Athletic Director Joe Kemper.
Three teens were arrested for the shooting, which caused officials to end the contest early between Carol City and Naples’ opponent this Friday, Central.
"We've really had a small handful of people ask us questions about it, said Kemper.
Even so, officials in both districts aren’t taking any chances. Miami-Dade Schools has its own police force, which will have a presence at the game.
“They told us they'll have something in the neighborhood of 20 uniformed officers at the game, and we'll be bringing along six of our Collier County Sheriff's deputies,” said Kemper.
Naples Coach Bill Kramer knows the area well. He coached dozens of games at Traz Powell Stadium when he was the head man at American High School.
“There are knuckleheads all over the world. You can't account for all of them, everyone is going to do the best they can. I think it's a non issue. I know a lot of wonderful people over there."
It’s the Eagles first trip to the semifinals since 2012, when Miami Central defeated them. Friday’s game kicks off at 7:30 and the winner advances to the state championship game in Orlando December 12th.
