An airport employee accused of taking $600 from a traveler's bag near a TSA checkpoint has been arrested.
Port Authority Police at Southwest Florida International Airport arrested FSS Skycap employee Broderick Robinson on a grand theft charge Tuesday.
According to an arrest report, Robinson was seen on surveillance video removing money from a passenger's belongings and placing it in his pocket.
Robinson, who is employed as a passenger service assistant, was working near the TSA checkpoint at Concourse D when a passenger traveling through the checkpoint reported the money was missing.
"That is surprising because they're the people you hire at the airport to try to feel safe, said Gillian Tucker.
She was traveling with her family and requested help from a service assistance to carry her bags in order to keep track of them all.
"I would say it's always in the back of my mind. We always make sure the keep the items together, " said Tucker.
Airport police say they found the money wrapped in a plastic bag hidden inside of a toilet seat cover dispenser. Robinson reportedly told officers he had gone to the bathroom after going through the checkpoint.
Robinson was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Lee County Jail. Attempts to reach his employer, Flight Systems and Services, were unsuccessful. Robinson's employment status with the company is unclear.
