Red tide still being detected on some Southwest Florida beaches

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A caution for those of you with plans to go to the beach: red tide still lingers along portions of Southwest Florida's coast.

A new sample map just released Wednesday afternoon by Florida Fish and Wildlife shows medium levels along Charlotte County beaches, and low levels along most of Lee County.

Red tide has plagued Southwest Florida's coast for years, off and on.  The toxic algae is known to cause fish kills along the coast and respiratory problems for people who visit the beach.
