LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A heads up for stone crab trappers: the 2019-2020 season is almost here and there's a new recreational trap requirement.
Harvesters ages 16 and up now have to fill out a free online trap registration and put your registration number on the trap before using them.
To register, visit GoOutdoorsFlorida.com and add the Recreational Stone Crab Trap Registration to your fishing license account.
Along with that number, you'll have to leave your name and address. That will help Florida Fish and Wildlife collect information for future changes.
Season starts October 15th, and runs through May 15th.
Recreational harvesters may collect up to five stone crab traps per person.
Recreational and commercial traps may be baited and placed in the water October 5th, but claws cannot be harvested or possessed until October 15th.
