NAPLES, Fla. — Part of the Naples Bay Oyster Reef Restoration project is now finished.

It is the first of three sites to be completed.

The City of Naples along with several organizations like NOAA and

Florida DEP is teaming up to restore five acres of oyster reef habitat in Naples bay.

Oyster reefs have decreased by 80 percent since 1950 because of urbanization and channelization in the Naples area.

The goals of this project are to improve water quality, protect the shore from storm surge, and provide habitat for sea life and birds.
