CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Florida Power and Light announced on Thursday that they will begin construction on 10 new solar sites around the state, including some in Southwest Florida.

Those locations will be in Charlotte, Hendry and DeSoto counties.

Other solar power plants are planned in Suwannee, Palm Beach, Baker, Okeechobee, Manatee, Martin, and Putnam counties.

The new sites are expected to begin powering customers by early 2020.

FPL says they are on a mission to install more than 30 million solar panels in the state by 2030.

The company currently operates approximately 1,250 megawatts of solar capacity across 18 existing solar plants and other smaller installations.
