FORT MYERS, Fla.- 'Twas the night of the big Powerball drawing, when all through the nation.  People lined up for tickets, hoping for a 1.5 billion dollar celebration.

"You can win 1.5 billion dollars and spend two bucks, why not?"

"What's the odds of anybody winning this?"

Hundreds of them at gas stations and convenience stores, standing in line
Hoping and praying to call out, "Those numbers are mine!"

 "1.5 billion dollars! that's incredible!"

But not every person in the great sunshine state
Thinks spending hard-earned money on Powerball is all that great

"You are 200 times more likely to get hit by lightening than win this lottery."

Finance expert, James Gallagher, says you're probably wasting your cash
But still, after work, he plans are to make his own dash

"I'm gonna buy a lottery ticket for the first time in 30 years tonight."

Telling us- really, there's no harm in taking part
As long as what you're spending is smart

"Do not take and spend any money that is not discretionary money, don't go find thousands of dollars to buy lottery tickets when you can't afford it."

Some of the cashiers at a Cape Coral store
Tell us people are spending hundreds of dollars, convinced they'll win more

"Imma win it!"

And if they don't win, they will say, "So?"
They loved dreaming of the pot of gold at the end of the powerball rainbow.

"I don't even know what I would do with that money, but I figure, I gave it a shot, right?"
