BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. -- Lee County leaders now say that a parcel of land in Bonita Springs where the school district is eyeing for a new high school is free of asbestos.
The land in question is a 66-acre parcel on Imperial Parkway. A few weeks ago, community members claimed the site was contaminated because it use to be a contractor dumping site for waste containing the harmful mineral.
But county officials say the asbestos was eventually cleaned up and no longer poses a threat.
The district hopes to make a final decision on the site next month.
