Local law enforcement stepped up their patrols for St. Patrick's Day, giving a fair warning to partygoers that if they drink and drive, they will be caught.
When it comes to St. Patty's Day, it seems one thing comes to mind:
"I think of drinking, pretty much. Just bar hopping," Tabitha Langley said.
"Just trying to really feel that Irish alcoholism spirit. I just want to get in the spirit of being able to drink all day long," Melaku Shiferaw said.
"After I'm finished here, there will be plenty of drinking going on," Mary Chapman said.
Whether it's green beer or Guinness they're drinking, law enforcement are keeping an eye out for drivers who've had a little too much.
"Everybody's Irish today, so we try to make sure to keep them in line," Sgt. Patrick O'Grady of Cape Coral Police said.
Fox 4 rode along with O'Grady as he pulled over drivers who seemed to party too hard before getting behind the wheel.
"People swerving, speeding, making improper turns, failing to yield to other drivers. Pretty much any traffic infraction," he said.
O'Grady said educating the public and letting them know when they're boosting their presence deters some of that behavior.
"I talked to bartenders at local bars, and they tell me that when we have wolfpacks, people are scared to drive just knowing that extra people are going to be out just patrolling for drunk drivers," he said. "Save yourself ten grand. It's not worth getting in a crash."
Fort Myers police also boosted DUI sobriety patrols.
All officers encourage partiers to use a designated driver, uber, or a taxi service.
