CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The Cape Coral Police Department is warning citizens of a potentially terrifying scam that has been reported in the area.

According to police, a resident received a phone call from international number. The male caller advised the citizen that he had the citizen`s daughter in the woods and demanded money from the citizen. The citizen even described hearing a female screaming in the background saying, "Daddy help, Daddy help!"

The citizen contacted his daughter and she advised him that she was fine and not in any danger.  The citizen filed a police report with the Cape Coral Police Department.

The Cape Coral Police Department wants to remind citizens that scammers will go to any lengths to deprive them of their money.  Scams such as this try to evoke an emotional response and get you to act before thinking, with the ultimate end being to persuade you to transfer money to the scammer.  Once monies are transferred, they are virtually untraceable.

Cape Coral Police urge you to immediately hang up on any such scammers and file a police report.
