FORT MYERS, FLA.- After about six years of designing, waiting, struggling with money, and most recently, issues with developers, the executive director of Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency, Don Paight, told Fox 4 the Harborside Hotel is back on the fast track to construction.
"It will a 100% be go after January 19th. Documents get signed and the 13 million dollar equity fund in is place, then it will be a go!"
Paight said financing issues had put the project on hold.
"The difficulty is getting financing for hotels today. The developer we had been working with for about a year had trouble getting all the equity together.
He's back on board and Paight said, moving forward with the original developer, we should see construction sooner rather than later.
"We're hoping by July or August of 2016 we should be able to see a groundbreaking, maybe even a little before that! And hopefully 18 months from that point, we'll see a hotel you can walk into and enjoy."
