Mother and daughter die in Corkscrew Road crash Monday

UPDATE -- Police have confirmed the driver in Monday's crashed has died. 

It happened nearly 3 miles east of Interstate 7 along a curve in the road.

April Feinstein, 33, who was transported to Lee Memorial with life-threatening injuries passed away late Thursday afternoon.

April's mother, Rhoda Feinstein, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Estero woman is dead after a head-on collision along Corkscrew Road that deputies say was speed-related.

It happened at approximately 5 p.m. nearly 3 miles east of Interstate 75 along a curve in the road.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old April Feinstein and her mother Rhoda were headed westbound on Corkscrew in a car when April failed to properly navigate the road's curve to the left.

Their car crossed over the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound SUV.

58-year-old Rhoda Feinstein died at the scene.  April was transported to Lee Memorial with life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the SUV, 41-year-old Carrie Lynn Benson-Martus and 11-year-old Alexis Martus, were also injured and taken to Lee Memorial.

The investigation is still under way.
