NaplesZoo says farewell to long-time resident sloth

Posted

NAPLES, Fla. -- NaplesZoo staff and the community is mourning the loss of Molly the sloth, who has been the highlight in the feature show at the zoo for over 30 years.

The zoo announced Tuesday that due to her failing health in recent weeks, the tough decision was made to euthanize Molly.

“She was an exceptional sloth, and she had a full life here with the care and support of zoo staff. We are very lucky to have had the opportunity to care for her for so many years. It is a sad day at the Zoo, but Molly’s memory will live on.” said Liz Harmon, Director of Animal Programs.

The zoo says that even though Molly will always remain in their hearts, they do plan to add another sloth to their feature show.

Zoo staff ask you to join in the remembrance of Molly by sharing your best photo of her with us at www.facebook.com/naples or e-mail them to courtneyj@napleszoo.org. They would love to see all photos, whether they are just Molly or your favorite “slothie”.
