FORT MYERS, Fla-- A string of car burglaries in a Fort Myers neighborhood has left residents on high alert. On Monday, six reports were filed with LCSO from residents living in Central Park South Condos
"I'm surprised, very surprised," said a Central Park South Condo resident.
The homeowner who didn't want to be identified said he's lived at the complex for more than a decade and last year he was a victim of the very same crime. Several residents believe the neighborhood is being targeted because of their age.
"They are targeting you know retirees and people who are on fixed incomes and it's not fair," said the resident.
Many of the victims said it happens late at night and don't realize until they go to their car the next day. The thieves are taking items like money, GPS systems and well, anything they can quickly get their hands on.
LCSO wants to remind all residents that it's important to always lock your car doors, never leave valuables inside and also to never be complacent.
"I think more and more people are seeing society is changing and you have to be a little more cautious and vigilant," said the resident.
If you have any information about these car break-ins you are asked to contact LCSO.
