SANIBEL, Fla. - The mayor of Sanibel is on a mission to cut down on traffic.

Congestion on the roads is normal during the height of season.  Visitors in cars and on bikes learn very quickly when to avoid the pavement.

Mayor Kevin Ruane says he's waiting for a study to be completed looking at turning some intersections into roundabouts to improve traffic flow.

Second, he's looking to take a page from Fort Myers Beach’s playbook and install cameras that people can access on the web to see how bad traffic actually is in real time.

Third, he hopes to release a new app for cell phone users which will allow people to access traffic patterns on the island. Hopefully making their lives a little bit easier.

And fourth, he wants to see more island companies implement a flex time program for employees.

The Mayor is proposing a four day work week for government employees who would then work a ten hour shift.
