ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- A man was shot by a Charlotte County deputy at a home on Hamlet Street in Englewood Friday night. It's the second Charlotte County deputy involved shooting in less than a month.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the 6400 block of Hamlet Dr. in Englewood around 8:30 Friday evening to respond to a domestic disturbance. A woman called to say that a man had assaulted her, he was suicidal and had a weapon.

When deputies arrived, they found Casey Roberts, 36, outside the home and he was armed.  A confrontation developed between Roberts and deputies that led to one deputy shooting the man.

He was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive.  Nobody else was hurt.

When Fox 4 looked for Roberts mug shot, it was unavailable. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office told us as a former law enforcement officer, Roberts' photo is exempt from disclosure. Friends told Four in Your Corner Roberts is a former Charlotte County deputy and said the incident is extremely out of character for him.

The investigation into the incident continues.

This is the second deputy involved shooting in Englewood in less than a month.

Deputies shot and killed Jacob Taulbee in late February after a similar incident at a home in the 6200 block of Marcum St. in Englewood.

Deputies say they responded to a domestic dispute and found Taulbee armed with knives.  Instead of surrendering, he approached deputies and was shot.  Taulbee died from his injuries.
