FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- Red tide levels are getting better in parts of Southwest Florida but even in those areas, businesses are losing an incredible amount of money every day.
A map from Florida Fish and Wildlife shows that there are lower levels of red tide in Lee County and even less in Collier County.
However, concentrations of red tide are getting higher in Charlotte and Sarasota counties.
A lot damage has already been done.
Fish kills are keeping people away from Fort Myers Beach, even though the clean up efforts are helping remove the dead fish.
The Chamber of Commerce says the town has been losing about $2.5 million each week.
So they decided to have a workshop to help business owners.
A consultant will meet with them to talk strategy, recovery and future plans.
It’s from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Wednesday at the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, located at 1054 5th Street.
