FORT MYERS, Fla — The Lee County Sheriff's Office says the roads are safer after they arrested a woman who hit an EMS truck while under the influence.

It happened on Six Mile Cypress Parkway in Fort Myers on September 7th.

Deputies say they responded to the area and found Jillian Tooma passed out behind the wheel of her vehicle. Tooma backed up into an EMS truck when she was fleeing the area.

Concerned for the safety of other drivers, deputies searched the area for Tooma.

They found her a short time later parked sideways in two spots.

Deputies say she was slumped over in a driver's seat, and they saw her inhaling from an aerosol can.

Investigators say she was ignoring their commands to exit the vehicle, was in and out of consciousness.

They also say she managed to start the car and almost hit the deputy's patrol car and light post before running away on foot.

She was arrested and given medical attention.

Tooma is charged with Hit and Run, Driving Under the Influence, Resisting Officer without Violence, and Inhale/Ingest Dangerous Drugs.
