FORT MYERS, Fla. — On May 9 Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a 911 call from a homeowner claiming a burglar was in her house.

When police arrived, they met with Jamie Kirschner who reported the suspect had fled the scene.

Officers set up a perimeter near the Fort Myers Country Club with the assistance of the K-9 unit and Lee County Sheriff’s aviation.

On July 18, a summons was served. Kirschner is being charged with making a False 911 Call, a First-Degree Misdemeanor, and filing a False Report to Law Authority, also a First-Degree Misdemeanor.

After an extensive investigation police discovered Kirschner falsely reported that someone forcefully burglarized her home while she was present.

The Fort Myers Police Department takes instances of false reporting very seriously because of the fear it may instill in the affected area as well as the tremendous amount of resources that could have been utilized for legitimate purposes.
