Woman blames neighbor for flooding and mosquito problem

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A Cape Coral woman says her neighbor is clogging up a drainage ditch along Northeast 1st Place. She believes the flooding in front of her home caused a recent mosquito infestation.

"I hear them at night buzzing, when I turn out the lights, and they're biting me,” said Carolyn Fording.

She claims her neighbor put sand and mulch between his driveway and the street, blocking the ditch and causing the flooding.
"We didn't have it before that, and they've only been there a year, and it started after they moved in."

4-In-Your-Corner spoke to a man who lives at the home, who denied filling the ditch. He says sand on his property is being forced into the ditch by rain.
We also left a message for the City of Cape Coral, but did not hear back as of the close of business Thursday.

Carolyn is hoping for answers soon, because the mosquito situation is also bad for her four legged family members.

"We had larvae in the water we put down for the dogs so we know mosquitoes were in the house.”

Another neighbor told 4-In-Your Corner he's seen that same ditch flood, but he thinks it's because the City of Cape Coral doesn't properly maintain it.
