NORTH PORT, Fla. — A woman is arrested after a person died in a single car rollover crash around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday in North Port, according to police.
Stephanie Evrard, 19, was identified as the driver of a 2010 Toyota SUV that was involved in the crash. Police said the incident took place while 13 individuals were inside and on the roof while it was in motion.
Evrard was attempting to drive on Joewood Circle and failed to navigate the curve, causing a rollover.
She is charged with DUI Manslaughter and three counts of DUI with Personal injury, according to police. Evrard is being held at Sarasota County Jail.
Police said upon arrival they discovered that a 17-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene.
Three other passengers of the car were taken to area hospitals for treatment, two of them by Bayflite. One passenger has been treated and released, one is in surgery, and the other is being treated for internal injuries.
Police said the victim’s names will not be released at this time.
The victim and some involved in the crash are North Port High School students. Police are working to make sure grief counselors will be available for all students Monday morning.
