COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A woman and child from Arkansas have been identified as the victims in a fatal single-car crash along State Road 29 in rural Collier County Friday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, it happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Troopers say 31-year-old Latoya Thomas of Little Rock was driving south on State Road 29, past Oil Well Road, when for unknown reasons she failed to maintain her lane in a curve to the right.
The car crossed the northbound lane and entered the shoulder, where it went through a fence and hit a tree.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, 10-year-old Carter Smith, also of Little Rock, was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
