GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. — UPDATE 11:45PM
The Shy Wolf Sancturary announced in a Facebook post that Eva the wolf dog who went missing earlier has been found and returned to the sactuary. They placed her into an enclosure with a top.
A female wolfdog is on the loose after climbing over a 10' fence at the Shy Wolf Sanctuary in Golden Gate Estates, according to Shy Wolf Sanctuary.
County emergency dispatchers fielded a call around 10:30 a.m. about the wolfdog said Michelle Batten, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
The sanctuary was boarding 3-year-old Eva when she jumped a 10-foot fence and escaped into the wooded area. The search for her went all day long with help from Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife. FWC shot Eva with a tranquilizer dart to slow her down enough to be recaptured.
Eva is a 60-70 lb wolfdog from the Miami area. Her owners were boarding the animal at Shy Wolf Sanctuary. Earlier today, the animal was spooked and climbed the Sanctuary’s 10-ft fencing. The wolfdog was last seen in Golden Gate Estates between 27th Street SW and 29th Street SW, south of White Blvd. This the first time an animal escaped from the sanctuary.
The wolfdog does not have any history of aggression toward people but has shown aggression toward small animals. Residents in the neighborhood are advised to keep small pets indoors until the wolfdog is located.
If you spot the wolfdog, do not approach it. Please notify the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300.
