Four in Your Corner wanted to know if cars are protected after being damaged while driving through deep water.

Bernal Alvarez with Blast Auto service said he's had multiple customers over the last few days that have come in with water damage  to their engines, electric systems and even rims and tires from hitting something under the water.

He says when you take the risk of driving through deep water, you can't always see debris or potholes you might run into.

"The weather conditions don't favor nobody," he said. "It's unpredictable."

He said the most expensive fix is after water gets into the engine and can severely damage it.

He said, "There's a lot of things that can happen."

Four in your corner spoke with Ted Todd with Ted Todd insurance and he said it's very important to have both comprehensive and collision coverage.

Collision coverage protects your vehicle when you run into something or something hits you. Comprehensive coverage protects everything else from vandalism, fire and water damage.

He said it's pretty common that people will have comprehensive coverage, but if you don't, you need it.

Todd said, "If they don't, they should pick up the phone and call their agent and say, 'Add comprehensive to my policy.'"

Even if you decide to drive through water, these two coverage options will help you.

He said they also offer rental car reimbursement coverage which completely reimburses you if you need to get a rental while your vehicle is in the shop.

Allstate also created a special number for people to call in an event like the heavy rain from the past few days. It is 1-800-54-STORM.
