CAPE CORAL, Fla-- Dozens of people gathered at Cape Christian Saturday to pack thousands of meals for those in need in Haiti.
Volunteers helped fill the bags with rice, nuts, and a lot of love. Pastor Cindy Grasso said it’s a quick way to get hands-on and give back.
“There are people who can go to the country, there are people who give so others can go, and then there are people who can get their hands in and do something,” said Grasso. “We want every single person who can–– be involved in changing the world.”
In less than an hour, volunteers packed about 250,000 meals. People of all ages attended the event. Cousins–– Bella and Addison–– came with their family to help pack meals.
“It was really good,” said Addison. “I liked how kind and friendly everyone was, and it was very nice.”
As for some of the other volunteers, they’ve been doing this event for years. This was Lily Dimurro’s fourth year. At 12-years-old she leads a table which means she helps guide an entire team to pack each baggie perfectly.
She said the event is even more special because she gets to do it with her mom.
“It feels very heartwarming to be with someone you love doing something you love,” said Dimurro.
The church plans to pack even more meals on Sunday after service. While they have plenty of volunteers, they are always looking for more. Volunteers can sign up at church or on their website.
