The six mile extension would terminate at 16th Street Northeast, between Randall Boulevard and Golden Gate Boulevard.
Officials say once completed, it would east traffic on Immokalee Road.
"There is heavy growth in Collier County, if you have driven in Golden Gate Estates, there are many houses being built," said Jay Ahmad, Collier County's Division Director of Transportation.
The county envisions a 6 lane road several years down the line. Part of the project could include relocating a canal. Neighbors worry about flooding, especially with golf courses nearby.
"When all their lakes fill up at a higher elevation, that water is going to level itself and come over on me," said Wayne McCollum, who lives off Vanderbilt Beach Road.
The county still needs to get the permitting from the state as well as approval from the county commission before breaking ground, which it hopes to do in the year 2021.
