FORT MYERS, Fla. — The United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee is offering free tax filing assistance through their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The program is offered to families making less than $66,000 per year.

United Way says VITA volunteers will work to prepare returns and determine if the taxpayers are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit or Childcare Credits, in addition to helping low-to-moderate income households meet their basic needs and build financial assets.

To locate the most convenient VITA site and schedule an appointment with an IRS-certified volunteer to prepare your free tax return visit: Unitedwaylee.org/freetaxprep or call the United Way 211 Helpline by dialing 2-1-1 or 239.433.3900.

Those who prefer a no contact option can e-file free of charge with MyFreeTaxes.com.
