LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Check your Uber App, the company announcing Wednesday it’ll start banning passengers who have a low rating from using their service.
The ride share app uses a five star rating system and after each ride both the driver and passenger rate the experience.
“It shows up right on our screen it, gives us the person’s name, the rating, so we can get a pretty good idea,” said Danny Johnson, Uber Driver.
Danny Johnson has been an Uber driver for about two years and in his experience, “I can think of maybe two cases out of 4,000 rides I’ve had that people were unacceptable.”
“I’ve only had one bad experience, I try to keep more to the airport runs, deal with travelers, people who haven’t been drinking,” said Mark Crane, part-time Uber Driver.
Drivers Fox 4 spoke with saw they give fewer stars to passengers who are disrepectful, rude, or belligerent.
Uber says they aren’t releasing the minimum rating level, but if a rider is at risk they will get notifications and have a chance to improve before getting deactivated.
“it makes me feel good as a driver, knowing that they do care about the safety of the driver’s,” said Crane.
Uber drivers are held to similar standards, if they have low ratings they can’t drive for the ride share app.
“Most people just want to get from point a to point b safely, that’s their biggest thing, if they do their job and we do ours, everyone wins,” said Johnson.
If the riders account is deactivated they won’t be able to access Uber Eats app or it’s E-scooter Jump app.
