Two-vehicle crash leaves one person dead in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla — A two car-crash in Cape Coral on Sunday leaves one person dead and others injured.

It happened at the intersection of Cultural Park Boulevard and NE Pine Island Lane.

Police say Virginia Martinez was in a Hyundai Veloster driving West on NE Pine Island Lane.

She was approaching the intersection and stop sign of Cultural Park Boulevard, according to police.

Investigators say Neil E. Bushen and his passengers, Karrie A. Kendall and Jestin T. Brown, were traveling North on Cultural Park Boulevard, which has no stop sign.

Investigators say Martinez did not stop at the stop sign.

They say the front of her car struck the right front and side of the truck Bushen, Kendall, and Brown was in.

Police say the truck rolled over towards the driver's side and exited off the roadway.

Investigators say it continued to roll and came to a rest in a vacant field.

They say the driver, Bushen, and the passenger, Kendall, were not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck.

Cape Coral Police say the truck rolled on top of Kendall, causing fatal injuries, and Bushen suffered serious injuries.

They everyone involved in the accident was trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai Veloster, Martinez, suffered life-threatening injuries and was admitted into the hospital.

Police say Bushen also was admitted into the hospital, and his passenger Brown suffered minor injuries and is receiving medical attention.

Investigators say alcohol and drugs are not related to this traffic crash.
