SANIBEL — The Sanibel Fire Rescue District has confirmed two people were struck by lightning Saturday while out on a beach on the island.
They were transported to the hospital for evaluation. There are no details on their condition at this time.
UPDATE (07/25/2021 at 7:30 p.m.) -- We now know the two people struck by lightning were a husband and wife. They were on the beach at the Sanibel Beach Club when they were struck around 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
Police said they saw bystanders performing CPR on the man and helping the woman, who was conscious and breathing. We are still working to learn their conditions at this time.
