Two Naples men were arrested Tuesday night after a deputy said they were observed racing each other - one on a motorcycle, one in a Honda Civic - on I-75. Eduardo Garcia, 24, and Neil Guevara Freites, face charges of unlawful racing.

A deputy with the Collier County Sheriff's Office reported that he was driving southbound on I-75 when two riders on motorcycles entered the freeway from Pine Ridge Road, just ahead of the deputy's patrol car.

According to the deputy's report, a Honda Civic lined up beside the two bikes near the 103 mile marker and flashed a red light from its rear window. Then all three vehicles reportedly accelerated, reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour.

The deputy eventually caught up with the Honda and one of the motorcycles when they stopped at a car wash near Collier Boulevard and Exit 101. Arrest reports state that Garcia, the motorcyclist, and Guevara Freites, the Honda driver, were both detained. The other motorcyclist took off northbound on Collier Boulevard.

Unlawful racing is a misdemeanor. Garcia and Guevara Freites were both released on bond.
