HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. -- Two Bartow residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 27 Thursday morning.
According to Florid Highway Patrol, a commercial truck towing an empty trailer was headed southbound on U.S. 27, approaching Farm Drake Road at 7:10 a.m. when the driver veered left to make a sudden right turn off the road.
That's when a southbound SUV in the left lane crashed into the rear of the trailer.
The SUV's driver, 62-year-old Bruce Newton, was seriously injured and taken to Hendry Regional Hospital. A passenger in the SUV, 66-year-old Linda Newton, was critically injured and airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
