LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers have arrested a man who they say was the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian on State Road 80 in Fort Myers in 2017.
40-year-old Camilo Estevez of Fort Myers is charged with leaving the scene with death and tampering with evidence, both felonies.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, on September 3rd, 2017, 36-year-old Felipe Pasa was hit by a Toyota Sienna van while walking across State Road 80 at the intersection with Figuera Avenue. The driver of the van fled the scene.
FHP later found surveillance video showing the driver of a van stopping on State Road 80 at Buena Vista Boulevard, looking at the front end of the van, and then driving off.
Troopers later impounded the van, and have now arrested Estevez as the driver.
Troopers remind drivers that if you are involved in a crash, you must remain on scene. By remaining on scene, you can avoid the legal consequences of leaving and more importantly potentially save a life by calling 911.
