One seriously injured in 3-vehicle crash in rural Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A serious crash east of Punta Gorda has sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries and blocked the intersection Tuesday afternoon.

According to Charlotte County Fire & EMS, the crash happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Bermont Road and State Road 31.

The crash involved a dump truck, a pickup truck, and a passenger vehicle.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the pickup truck was westbound on Bermont Road and stopped at the intersection when it proceeded across S.R. 31 as the northbound dump truck approached.

The dump truck hit the side of the pickup truck, then crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound car.

The driver of the car, 52-year-old Oliver M. Ahn of fort Myers, was flown from the scene to the Lee Memorial trauma center.

The other drivers were uninjured.

The pickup truck's driver, 61-year-old John Ferraro of Cape Coral, was charged with Vehicle Entering Stop or Yield Intersection
