MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — On Dec. 9, the Marco Island Charter Middle School notified police about verbal threats that took place in a school recreation area while children were playing with a ball.
The threat was reported at 4 p.m., after students had already been dismissed for the day.
A twelve-year-old boy is alleged to have made the statements and has been removed from the school by administrators.
The boy denies making the threats.
There is no evidence he has immediate access to firearms in his home.
The incident is still under investigation.
Since 2018 the Marco Island Police Department has assigned a School Resource Officer to each of the island’s schools.
