The City of Fort Myers declares a state of local emergency ahead of Hurricane Dorian

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Mayor and council members declared a state of local emergency for the City of Fort Myers today due to the progression and magnitude of Hurricane Dorian.

Depending on the severity and duration of the storm, tropical-storm-force winds and rain could cause damage to public utilities, communications systems, streets and roads, public drainage systems, and commercial and residential buildings.

Sandbag fill locations have been set up for city residents at the following locations beginning at 2:00.

Residents should bring their shovel.

There is a 10-sandbag limit per household.

  • Fire Station 5, 9700 Treeline Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida 33913

Solid Waste pickup will be on Saturday, August 31.

There will be no collection of trash, yard waste, or recycling on Monday and Tuesday.

The city will make an announcement related to collections in advance of Wednesday.
