CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police have arrested a 17-year-old Cape Coral resident on numerous charges after they say he stole a pickup truck, aimed a gun at the victim, and ran away from police over the course of several days.
The suspect is charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under the Age of 18, Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer Without Violence, and Possession of Cannabis Under 20 grams.
According to Cape Coral Police, it all started when a white pickup truck was stolen from a home in the 1800 block of NW 1st Place on Saturday, February 16.
Two days later, investigators identified the teen who stole the truck, who was seen driving it around town, but they were unable to locate him.
The next day, officers found the teen driving the truck and attempted to pull him over. Instead, the teen was able to escape by driving between two houses.
Then on February 22nd, the victim found the truck parked along Diplomat Parkway. He confronted the teen inside the truck, and the teen reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim before running away on foot.
Officers arrived and found the teen swimming away from them in a canal before climbing up an embankment and running away. He was later found hiding near a home. Officers also found a handgun and a bag of cannabis that the teen had attempted to discard during the chase.
The teen was arrested and transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
