PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) is closed in both directions in Punta Gorda due to a serious vehicle accident.

According to Punta Gorda Police, it's near the intersection with Royal Poinciana.

The crash happened at approximately 1 p.m.

Drivers should find an alternate route since the lane closures are expected to last for a while.
