Lee County deputies spent the early morning hours of Thursday investigating a stabbing on Fort Myers Beach. It happened outside the Mermaid Lounge, and sent one person to the hospital with significant injuries. Surveillance video from The Doghouse restaurant across the street captured the incident, which co-owner Jason Unger provided to investigators.
"One gentleman was on the ground, and he reached up and stabbed the other gentleman in the stomach," Unger said. "It kind of sends a little chill up your spine seeing that...not a very pleasant thought."
There was a great deal of blood on Estero Boulevard in front of the Mermaid Lounge. The victim was taken to the hospital.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office said they have identified all of the parties involved in the incident, and are not seeking more suspects.
The stabbing comes just weeks after the high-profile murder of Pamela Hutchinson in her Fort Myers Beach hotel room. Investigators believe she was murdered by Lois Riess, who was on the run after her husband's murder in Minnesota.
Also in early April, one teen was arrested after jumping on the hood of a deputy's cruiser, causing over $1,000 in damage.
Unger said Fort Myers Beach doesn't deserve all the negative attention.
"It's really disturbing to see it all happen, but I hope that the focus isn't pushed all on Fort Myers Beach," Unger said. "If you look at the news, it's all over Southwest Florida."
