A storm that tore through North Fort Myers left a family shaken.
Three children inside their home as their parents rushed home from work after getting panicked texts from their children saying their house sustained damage from the winds and rain.
"There was a crashing sound and the house was shaking," said Sandra Mercado, after she got the call from her eldest son about what happened.
The couple came home to find large pieces of their carport carried into a yard next door.
"Took it off and flew away like a kite," said Carlos Ramos, after he removed some debris from his home from the street.
Ramos and Mercado huddled underneath an umbrella where their carport used to stand as they tried to make sense of what happened.
"When I came here, I didn't know it was going to be this bad," said Mercado.
The carport being torn from their home along with their shed's roof leaving expensive tools damaged.
The couple grateful their children were safe and sound.
"As a mother you worry anyways especially when I saw this. I'm heartbroken," she said.
