Veterans Day observations planned in Southwest Florida

Southwest Florida is honoring those who have served our country on Veterans Day. Several businesses are offering their services to veterans and active-duty personnel as a thank you for their service.
Check out the list below of different offers and events.

Veterans Day Parade in Cape Coral:
A section of Cape Coral Parkway will be closed for the parade on November 11th from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. All lanes between Coronado Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard South will be closed. Motorists should seek alternate routes and allow extra travel time to avoid delays. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and head west on Cape Coral Parkway from Cape Coral Street to Chester Street. Fox 4 anchor Lisa Greenberg will be at the parade.

Publix discount for Veterans:
Publix is offering veterans, active military personnel and their families a 10% discount on Veterans Day in honor of their service to our county. The offer is valid for in-store purchases only. The offer excludes prescriptions, alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, lottery tickets, postage stamps, money services, Publix Delivery, Publix Curbside, or online payments. The customer is responsible for all applicable taxes. At purchase, discount will be valid with proof of veteran ID card, military ID card, discharge document, or a driver's license with veteran designation.

Veterans admitted free to Edison and Ford winter estates on Veterans Day:
Edison and Ford Winter Estates is offering free admission to United States veterans and one guest on Veterans Day. Free admission includes a self-guided audio tour of the historic homes, gardens, laboratory, and museum.

Midpoint Madness Veterans Day 5k run/walk:
Cape Coral-Fort Myers motorists should use other routes. The Midpoint Madness Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk will close the Midpoint Bridge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, November 11th. For information about the annual nighttime Veterans Day event, contact the Fort Myers YMCA at www.swflymca.org or the Fort Myers Track Club at www.ftmyerstrackclub.com. Pre- and post-race activities will be at Royal Palm Square at the base of the Midpoint Bridge in Fort Myers at 1400 Colonial Blvd. The race begins at 7 p.m.

Naples Zoo Veterans Day:
Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens is pleased to offer free admission to veterans and active military service members during Veterans Day weekend. The free admission is offered for Saturday, November 9th, Sunday, November 10th, and Veterans Day Monday, November 11th. Guests of the party will receive $2 off regular Zoo admission during this time. To receive the free admission, military service members should present current military identification or a membership card in a veteran's organization with matching photo ID.

Military Heritage Museum in Punta Gorda:
The Military Heritage Museum will host a special ceremony in honor of Veterans Day. The ceremony will take place in the theater starting at 11 a.m on Monday, and will be followed by a reception.
