LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- With a historic vote on the impeachment of Donald Trump expected to take place Wednesday afternoon, here’s a look at how local representatives in Southwest Florida are expected to vote.
Greg Steube is a Republican representative for our state's 17th District, which includes North Port and Punta Gorda. He's expected to vote against impeachment.
Last week he released a statement which read, in part, "this impeachment inquiry was a partisan attack against a duly elected president."
GOP representative Mario Diaz-Balart, who represents LaBelle and Clewiston, is expected to follow suit by voting against impeachment.
In a tweet from September, he says "after reading the transcript, it's evident that yesterday's speculation and conjecture got ahead of the facts. There is clearly no quid pro quo. I'll continue to base myself on facts and the truth, and the facts I have seen most certainly do not warrant impeachment."
GOP representative Francis Rooney, who represents Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, and Marco Island seemed to still be undecided recently. In a statement he released earlier this month, Rooney says he personally doesn't believe the president's actions toward Ukraine were proper. But he would not make up his mind until seeing all of the evidence.
There are reports that he is leaning in favor of voting against impeachment.
