CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Punta Gorda woman died Thursday night in a single car crash near Burnt Store Village.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before midnight on Zemel Road near Deer Pass Road.
Troopers say a 26-year-old woman was driving westbound on Zemel Road when she lost control of her car, which veered left then rotated off the road to the right shoulder and hit a utility pole.
The driver died at the scene. Troopers have not yet released her identity.
Zemel Road was shut down for several hours, but appears to have reopened.
