LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A pair of siblings were injured Tuesday morning when they were hit by a passing school bus.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 6:30 a.m., the students were walking near the intersection of Alexander Graham Bell Boulevard and Shadow Lakes Drive when a school bus passed by, hitting them in their left arms with its side view mirror. The school bus was headed to East Lee High School at the time.

The victims, identified as 17-year-old Ednisha Wingate and 14-year-old Janiya Wingate, were taken to Golisano Children's Hospital with minor injuries and were released a short time later.

Troopers say there are no street lights or sidewalk on this stretch of road.

The sisters say this makes them afraid to walk to the bus stop in the future. "The cars need to slow down coming through here, and there needs to be a sidewalk," said Ednisha. "This could happen again, you never know."
